I too have memorable moose stories from my two summers in Alaska( 69 Fairbanks )and 70  Anchorage . I wish I knew you were up there back then. Work was scarce during those summers not many fires to fight  and the pipe line had been shut down for environmental evaluation.  I'm  sure you remember the large no of scruffy, unbathed, unemployed young men hanging out on the streets in Fairbanks.  We eventually, at the townspeople's request were removed to a couple of old airplane hangers outside of town. Those long hot nights spent with people from all over the states produced a lot of education.  I think today homeland security would be called in if such a group congregated.
After, a couple weeks waiting for work with bored delinquent youth like myself I spent my last money and flew to Naknek island (king salmon island) to see uncle Lee who I was told by my parents was doing quite well in refrigeration for the canneries. Alaskan Surrealism followed.... to be continued.
