Adventures
"Nothing but ocean and
mountains ..."
This is what
provides for truly spectacular adventures in the
Sitka area. There are hundreds of islands, fjords,
coves, and inlets waiting to be explored. All within
daytrips by kayak.
And Sitka has
something that no other town in Southeast Alaska can
offer, paddling for every skill level.
That's because we have the Pacific Ocean. We are the
only town located on the coast. That, combined with
the hundreds of islands and inlets, means we can
offer paddling for any skill level in any weather
condition.
Feel the
thunder of the ocean swells crashing on the rocky
shoreline with nothing between you and Japan except
miles of ocean.
Or skirt the
exposure by sneaking behind the rocks and islands
for a more moderate paddle.
Or paddle the
expansive placid waters of Silver Bay or Deep Inlet.
It's all right here.
Hiking
Sitka is
fortunate to have
some of the most beautiful hiking trails in
Southeast Alaska. We have a full range of
difficulty levels: from wheelchair accessible
wildlife viewing trails; to the rocky peaks of the
mountains overlooking the Pacific Ocean and Sitka
Sound. Sitka is truly a kayaker's and hiker's
dream-come-true.
Beachcombing and Wildlife
But there are
also plenty of opportunities for exploring the area
by mountain bike. We have trails that wind
along the salmon streams and trails that challenge
your legs and lungs to the top of Harbor Mountain.
